July 4, 2008

Full Show - This is our 4th of July show for 2008. It is warm but not hot, the mood is festive and families line Aspen Avenue below our studio windows here at the Weatherford Hotel as the parade begins Kara Kelty is our special co-host this week. She is running for a State office few of us had heard about. In most states, the Commission is known as the Public Service Commission or the Public Utility Commission. Our Commission, however, has responsibilities that go beyond traditional public utilities regulation. These additional roles include facilitating the incorporation of businesses and organizations, securities regulation and railroad/pipeline safety.

Kara Kelty - talks about her last six years of service on the Flagstaff City Council. With her we celebrate a couple of her accomplishments, ones that affect the high cost of housing in our ever more popular little mountain town. If you'd like to know more about our local candidate, you can visit her website.

Kimberly Ott - Gives us the cook's tour of the new City Council chambers, formerly Mayor Joe Donaldson's office ~ talks about the latest edition of Cityscape and mentions that Parks and Recreation will be moving their offices to the new Aquaplex in August.

Elizabeth Hellstern- From NAU's College of Arts and Letters joins us this week to begin her reports on the beauties and artistic moments, activities and objects, which NAU offers not only those who attend her ~ but we of town as well. all are welcome. We visit a couple of her favorites places this week

Tom Viskocil - The guy who brings us the student work of Sinaqua High School sports reports introduces us to the Wagner family. They are doing a small family outing this summer ~ a bicycle ride from California to South Carolina!!!

Tony Norris - Tells us a traditional 4th of July tale about a little old lady and her unique approach to the American APPLE PIE ~ hmmmm

Sue Norris - Yes, this is the other Norris, takes us out for a mid-summer update on her garden out in Doney Park. It's almost as if she defies gravity; the forces of the high elevation and the dry climate seem to be mere nuisances rather than deal killers. Her garden looks happy, healthy and green.
